Arrowhead Lake

About Arrowhead Lake

Tucked away in the beautiful Pocono Mountains, Arrowhead Lake is a private gated community in the Northeastern Mountains region of Pennsylvania. Loads of recreational amenities and a visitor-friendly attitude set caused Better Homes and Gardens magazine to once name Arrowhead Lake as one of its choice for "best up-and-coming vacation spot."

Arrowhead Lake is really two lakes: the main Arrowhead Lake covers 250 acres while smaller North Arrowhead Lake has 78 acres. The earthen North Arrowhead Dam impounds North Arrowhead Lake and was built across a Trout Creek tributary in 1970. Arrowhead Lake Community Association manages the reservoir which was specifically built to provide recreational opportunities. Arrowhead Lake has certainly fulfilled all expectations.

Stocked by the Pennsylvania Department of Fish and Game, the lake is managed as a catch and release lake except for the trout species. Pickerel and bass also inhabit the lake. Trout fishing contests occur until fall, and a limited amount of ice fishing is available in winter. Non-anglers enjoy swimming and boating and there are boat rentals available on both lakes. Arrowhead lake is a great place for sailboats as no gasoline powered boats are allowed on either Arrowhead or North Arrowhead Lakes.

In addition to swimming at one of the four beaches around Arrowhead Lake, there are three swimming pools, two of which are heated. The Arrowhead Lake Community Recreation Department offers a variety of classes including swimming lessons and water aerobics. There are also tennis courts with lessons available. There are kids craft classes and family movie nights. A variety of contests, including sand castle building and holiday house decorating, help build a sense of community all year long.

Arrowhead Lakes have no public access but there are a number of short term rentals that see increasing demand. A spectacularly enjoyable and guest friendly vacation home neighborhood, the Arrowhead Lake Community Association works hard to develop a sense of neighborliness while maintaining an atmosphere of privacy. Because it is just an hour and a half to two hours to Philadelphia, New York City, and New Jersey, the lake is very accessible. The NASCAR Pocono Raceway is nearby. Downhill skiing and golf are also within ten miles of Arrowhead Lake.

Hickory Run State Park in Carbon County is an easy day trip from Arrowhead Lake. The 15,990-acre park is located in the foothills of the Poconos and was called "shades of death" by early settlers. Filled with unfarmable land, swamps and extremely thick and dark forest, the area was not very inviting to early pioneers.t Loggers eventually cleared the land and in 1935 the National Park Service bought the land that would become Hickory Run. It was established as a National Recreation Demo Area, and in 1939 it was home to over 200 Civilian Conservation Corps members. It became Hickory Run State Park in 1945. A significant portion of the park is glacial moraine or rocky soil known as glacial till. The boulder field is one of the park's most notable features. Strewn with boulders left by retreating glaciers, the site is a National Natural Landmark.

With the privacy of a gated community and the recreational wealth of the Pocono Mountains at its doorstep, Arrowhead Lake creates hard-to-find perfection in the vacation property market. Guests and renters are equally welcome here.
