Nestled on the edge of the Poconos, the Twin Lakes are pristine glacial lakes tucked away in the land that inspired the birth of the US Forest Service. Completely private, the lakes offer homeowners and guests a secluded mountain retreat.

The Twin Lakes were created between 17,000 and 22,000 years ago when the Wisconsin Glacier retreated. Big Twin Lake has 285.5 surface acres of water with a maximum depth of 44 feet and a shoreline length of almost three miles. At 49 feet, Little Twin Lake is deeper than Big Twin Lake but it only has 54.3 surface acres of water and a shoreline of just over a mile. Both lakes are completely surrounded by private property with no public access. There are no motors allowed on either of the lakes. As a result, they maintain their clean, clear glacial qualities.

The peaceful nature of the lakes combined with their proximity to the Poconos, New York City and Philadelphia makes Twin Lakes a fantastic location for a vacation home or a weekend destination. There are some lakefront vacation rentals and the lakes are just six miles north of historic Milford which also has various accommodations. The Village of Milford was established in 1796 and has a variety of historic buildings. Visitors can stroll down charming downtown streets past beautiful historic homes before stopping for lunch in one of Milford's many restaurants. There is also shopping and any amenities a visitor might need.

Milford is also the home of the Grey Towers National Historic Site, the home of Gifford Pinchot. Some consider Pinchot the father of the conservation movement. He served as the two term governor of Pennsylvania and was the first chief of the US Forest Service. Grey Towers was built by Gifford Pinchot's parents. Designed by architect Richard Morris Hunt, the house was completed in 1886. In 1963 Pinchot's son donated Grey Towers and 102 acres of surrounding land to the US Forest Service his father helped found. Today it serves as a conservation education and leadership center. It is an easy afternoon trip from Twin Lakes to tour the house, stroll through the gardens or hike the interactive forestry trail.

The Twin Lakes are in Pike County, and Milford is the county seat. Named for General Zebulon Pike, the 1812 War general who discovered Pike's Peak, Pike County borders both New York and New Jersey. The southwest side of the county borders the Poconos and the northwest border runs along Lake Wallenpaupack, a well known boating, fishing, and recreation destination. The county is 75 miles from New York City and 125 miles from Philadelphia. With the skiing, hiking and recreation of the Poconos and the almost 6,000 acres of water on Lake Wallenpaupack, Pike County has any recreation opportunity a visitor could want.
